Biden and Trump prepare to face off for presidential debate in Atlanta – WABE

The battleground state of Georgia is hosting the first debate of 2024 between the presumptive Republican and Democratic presidential candidates. President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump will make their bids for a second term Thursday evening, live from Atlanta.

On Wednesday’s edition of “Closer Look,” host Rose Scott speaks with WABE politics reporter Rahul Bali and Tammy Greer, clinical assistant professor at Georgia State University.

Bali joins the program from the state Capitol ahead of a Biden campaign news conference, which included a notable group of Trump opponents: former Illinois Republican Congressman Adam Kinzinger, former Lt. -Georgia Governor Geoff Duncan and January 6 Capitol Police Officer Harry Dunn.

Bali highlighted the latest debate news and efforts by both sides to attract more votes in the Atlanta area.

Next we hear from Tammy Greer, clinical assistant professor at Georgia State University. Professor Greer discussed the presidential debate from a national perspective, what’s at stake for each candidate, voter interest in the debates, and how debates can determine who wins the presidential election.

Greer also explained how political polls don’t always help people obtain key information and stressed the importance of all Georgians exercising their right to vote. She also urged voters to pay attention to the debate because it is likely a key indication of how a candidate will govern.
