Train service to and from New York’s Penn Station was suspended during the evening rush hour

New Jersey Transit service to and from Penn Station was temporarily suspended during rush hour Monday evening – the fourth time in less than a week that commuters have had to contend with delays and cancellations.

NJ Transit cited “Amtrak overhead line issues in one of the Hudson River tunnels” as the reason for another travel issue at the massive transit hub in Midtown Manhattan before resuming service around 7:30 p.m., the agency said in a series of tweets.

Nevertheless, commuters must expect delays of up to 60 minutes, the authority said.

During the outage, trains were initially diverted to Hoboken.

Last Tuesday, Pennsylvania experienced rail delays when a train broke down, and on Thursday and again Friday, commuters were stranded due to equipment problems caused by rising temperatures.

The agency blamed faulty overhead lines for the disruptions at the end of the week.

Amtrak and NJ Transit have long been pointing fingers at each other, with officials blaming both companies’ dilapidated equipment and outdated wiring for delays and service disruptions.
