MLC Suraj Revanna, accused of sexually abusing a man, remanded in custody for 14 days

MLC Suraj Revanna, the was arrested for sexual abuse a 27-year-old man from Hassan district, was brought before a magistrate on Sunday who remanded him in custody for 14 days.

The investigation into the case was handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) earlier the same day, following which Suraj was shifted from Hassan to Bengaluru and produced before the 42nd Additional Judge of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court (ACMM) at his residence.

Suraj Revanna, the grandson of HD Devegowda, was arrested after Complaint from a young person from Arkalgud taluk in Hassan district.

The victim had complained to the police that Suraj Revanna, the eldest son of Holenarasipura MP HD Revanna, sexually assaulted him on June 16 at his farm in Ghannikada and promised him a job.

Based on the complaint, the Holenarasipura police registered a case against the JD(S) MLC under sections 377 (unnatural offences), 342 (wrongful deprivation of liberty) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) late on Saturday night.

However, Suraj Revanna (37), the grandson of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda and nephew of Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy, has categorically denied these allegations.

Suraj also claimed that the man had filed a “false complaint” to extort Rs 50 million from him.
