(InTimeNews)

The thirteen crew members of the tourist yacht Persefoni I, who were arrested in connection with the fire on the island of Hydra on Friday evening, allegedly started by fireworks fired from the yacht, appeared before a prosecutor in the Piraeus court shortly after 13:00 on Sunday.

At the same time, the authorities are in the process of temporarily seizing the Persefoni I, which was chartered by 17 people from Kazakhstan.

According to reports, the thirteen crew members of the Persefoni I deny any involvement of the yacht in the fire and fireworks.

If found guilty, they face severe penalties, as causing fire and ecological destruction without loss of life is considered a crime that can result in a prison sentence of up to 20 years and a heavy fine.

The people were arrested on Saturday as part of the investigation into the cause of the fire.

The Minister for Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, Vassilis Kikilias, told the OPEN channel that the fire had burned three hundred hectares of forest.
