Police in Northern California cooperate with OfferUp for safe transition zones

The Stockton Police Department has partnered with OfferUp to provide a “safe exchange zone” to the public.

(FOX40.COM) — A Northern California police department is offering community members a safe place to exchange goods in partnership with an online and local sales site, OfferUp.

Stockton police issued a public service announcement Friday to remind people of a safe way to gather to conduct sales, online purchases and other business. They are one of several other law enforcement agencies in Northern California that have begun offering this service to the public.

“This location is under 24/7 video surveillance and offers people a safe place to complete conversations,” SPD said. “It consists of two clearly marked, green-colored parking spaces outside the police department building.”

According to the SPD, the designated location will help make the community safer.

“If you want to make an online purchase or sale, please use the secure exchange zone,” the SPD said.

Stockton’s Safe Exchange Zone is located in the front parking lot of the SPD operations building at 22 E. Market Street.
