gradually warmer, muggier end of the week, weekend

WEDNESDAY: Passing clouds will gradually clear throughout the day, and pleasant air will persist through mid-week. Expect morning 50s and 60s to trend toward the mid-80s. CODE ORANGE Only DeSoto County has reduced air quality – however, caution should be exercised throughout the greater Memphis area. When the wind turns east and southeast, overnight lows are expected to become warmer – to below 15 to 20 degrees Celsius.

THURSDAY: The upward trend continues throughout the Mid-South throughout the week. Temperatures are expected to quickly rise from 15 degrees in the morning to above 25 degrees and below 30 degrees in the afternoon, with ample sunshine and light, variable winds. Humidity will remain under control, but this could be the last day we stay near the heat index baseline. Lows will fall back above 15 degrees by Friday morning.

A LONGER DURATION OF TIME: Expect a return to above-average highs in the second half of the week and into Father’s Day weekend. Sun will continue to dominate under a ridge of high pressure overhead. Highs will rise to 35 to 40 degrees by the weekend. One or two isolated showers cannot be ruled out as moisture returns by the weekend, as humidity can push feels toward heat warning levels. Deep tropical moisture may bring more rain early next week.
