The soldier was arrested in Mallorca after the young woman said he attacked her

A 27-year-old RAF soldier appeared in the Mallorca courts on Tuesday May 7 to answer allegations that he raped a British woman who was holidaying on the Spanish island.

The young man, who is believed to have also been visiting Mallorca with a group of friends, was led into the courthouse in handcuffs after spending the previous night in a prison cell.

The woman, aged about 21, who reported the incident told authorities that she and her attacker returned to a hotel room, where the attacker allegedly ripped off her dress and forced her to perform oral sex on him before he raped her.

The couple reportedly met earlier in the day at a pub within the party resort and spent most of the day together on the beach before the incident.

It is understood the alleged sexual assault took place on a hotel balcony at around 5am on Monday, May 6. Police investigators managed to identify the suspect a few hours later after receiving a formal complaint on the matter.

A closed hearing will now be held to determine whether the suspect will be released on bail or held while the investigation continues.

There has been no official comment from the Guardia Civil on the trial, but a well-informed source on the island confirmed that the defendant is indeed an active member of the British Armed Forces who was born abroad but currently lives in the UK .

A second source said: “He was on holiday in Mallorca with a group of rugby players who had come to the island to take part in an event.

“He was arrested shortly before boarding his flight back to the UK.”
