Michigan man with suspended license appears virtually for hearing while driving

A Michigan man who had his driver’s license suspended appeared virtually at his own hearing on the case earlier this month by dialing in while driving.

Corey Harris told Washtenaw County Judge Cedric Simpson that he was on his way to his doctor’s office on May 15 and was driving at the time of the video call. Natalie Pate, the attorney representing Harris, asked for an adjournment of two to four weeks after her client parked, according to NBC News.

“OK, maybe I’m not understanding something,” Simpson said in a live stream on his YouTube page. “This is driving while license suspended? And he was just driving? And he doesn’t have a license?”

Pate confirmed that this case was a case of driving without a license.

“No, I’m looking at his record. He doesn’t have a license. He’s suspended and he’s just driving,” Simpson said in the video while Harris was still on the phone. “I don’t even know why he would do that. Therefore, the defendant’s bail is revoked in this matter.”

Simpson rejected the motion to adjourn and told Harris to turn himself in by 6 p.m. on May 15. However, it is unclear whether he met the deadline.
