Atlanta Braves News: Schwellenbach promotion, Max Fried shining, more

The Atlanta Braves are rumored to be calling up their No. 3 prospect, Spencer Schwellenbach, to make his MLB debut against the Washington Nationals today.

After six successful starts with the Rome Braves this year, Schwellenbach was promoted to Double-A Mississippi on May 14 and, although his time was limited, he pitched some gems. He combined for 13 scoreless innings and allowed just five hits. He struck out 17 and issued one walk.

The soon-to-be 24-year-old will fill the role of Bryce Elder, who was demoted last week after a disastrous outing.

Another strong start from Max Fried and some late scoring put the Braves back in the win column after a 2-0 loss to the Washington Nationals.

The Mississippi Braves completed the sweep of the Chattanooga Lookouts, thanks to Spencer Schwellenbach and Hurston Waldrep.

First it was Spencer Strider, and now it’s Ronald Acuña Jr. The Braves can’t catch a break on the injury front.
