Dog shot, owner injured in North Lawrence incident – The Lawrence Times

A dog was killed and its owner injured in a shooting in North Lawrence on Monday, police said.

“A woman was shot and a man was injured today after a dog got loose and attacked the man and his dog as he was walking in the 700 block of Ash Street around noon Monday,” a social media post said. Contribution from the Lawrence Police Department.

“The man stopped the attack by shooting and killing the attacking dog, but he also struck the dog’s owner, who tried to restrain the dog, in the thigh,” the post said.

According to the post, the woman was taken to an area trauma center with injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening. The man was examined by doctors but refused further treatment on site.

The investigation has been ongoing since Monday afternoon.
