Helicopter carrying Iranian president involved in accident

A helicopter in a convoy carrying the Iranian president was involved in an accident, state media reports.

It remains unclear whether Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi was on board, but state media claims the plane landed “hard.”

At the time, President Ebrahim Raisi was traveling on a plane with the country’s President Ilham Aliyev in Iran’s East Azerbaijan province after the inauguration of a dam.

According to state television, the incident occurred near the town of Jolfa, about 600 kilometers northwest of the capital Tehran.

Rescue teams are reportedly on their way to the scene, but thick fog and poor visibility are hampering efforts to reach the scene, according to state television.
