North Richland Hills family calls for justice after teen killed in hit-and-run – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth

Leo Galvan stands among hundreds of Lego bricks in his cousin’s room in their Irving home.

“These Legos here, he didn’t let anyone touch them,” said the 14-year-old.

Luis Luna’s room is covered with hundreds of Lego bricks. His school ID cards still dangle from his window and his backpack still hangs on the front door. But Luis is not here.

“I don’t want to believe it, you know,” Galvan said.

Galvan and his older brother grew up with Luis and lived next door to each other most of their lives.

Galvan said his older brother, who is 18, and Luis, who is 16, went to a concert together on Thursday.

He said Luis found the concert too loud and left. His family ended up searching for him for hours.

North Richland Hills police said Luis was traveling on the 8600 block of the Airport Freeway around 8:45 p.m. that evening when a driver struck him and fled the scene.

They said Luis died in the hospital from his injuries.

“How can he sleep at night?” Galvan said, a message to the driver. “How do you fall asleep after that? You hit someone and left.”

Police said they found the suspect’s car and identified a person of interest, but have not yet announced any arrests.

They are still asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash to call the department 817-281-1000.

Galvan said his family wants justice for Luis, who now only has the items in his room that remind them of their loved one – dinosaurs, running jerseys and organic food.

Galvan said his cousin was a quiet teenager who loved building Legos, cooking for his family and spending time with his cousins.

He also dreamed of joining the army.

But even though Luis grew up with his cousins, he will never get the chance to grow old with them.

“Honestly, it could be nighttime at any time. It could be morning, it could be any time, he would just come by chance. Yeah, I think that won’t happen anymore,” Galvan said.
