Three people were shot during a robbery at a supermarket in Claremont. The suspect was later found and arrested after dumping at least some of his clothing and the firearm under a vehicle at a nearby business, authorities said.

Claremont officers responded to the Super King Market, 436 Auto Center Dr., on a report of a robbery and shooting just after 5 p.m. on Friday, May 17, said Claremont Lt. Jason Walters. Officers arrived and treated the three victims until paramedics arrived and took them to a hospital.

Investigators spoke with witnesses and found surveillance video that helped identify the suspect, who fled before their arrival, Walters said.

While searching for the man, officers found clothing and a handgun under a vehicle that the suspect had hidden, Walters said.

A Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department helicopter assisted in the search and the suspect, 27-year-old Michael Abeyta, was found walking in the 100 block of Meredith Avenue, about a mile northeast of the grocery store, the lieutenant said. He was arrested without incident on suspicion of attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, felon in possession of a firearm, robbery and criminal threats.

What, if anything, he took from the victims was not immediately disclosed by police.

Abeyta is being held in jail on $2 million bail, Walters said.

Police identified an accomplice in the robbery, 37-year-old Amanda Soto of Pomona, and arrested her on suspicion of robbery and an active warrant, Walters said. She was held on $125,000 bail.
