Anderson man arrested after resisting arrest and firing a gun inside his home

ANDERSON, Ind. – An Anderson man has been arrested and charged after he reportedly fired a gun twice in his home in the presence of his children and then resisted arrest when police arrived.

According to court documents filed in Madison County earlier this month, 33-year-old Tigh Conley was arrested and charged:

  • One count of criminal recklessness in which the defendant discharges a firearm into a building, a Level 5 felony
  • Two counts of assault with the victim being a public safety officer, a Level 6 felony
  • One case involves attempted assault by bodily waste where the victim is a public safety officer, a Level 6 felony
  • Two counts of neglect of a dependent, a Level 6 felony
  • One count of unlawfully carrying a handgun with a prior felony conviction, a Level 5 felony
  • One misdemeanor count of unlawful carrying of a handgun and one misdemeanor count of resisting law enforcement

On May 12, Anderson Police Department officers were dispatched to a home in Anderson to find a man, later identified as Conley, who was reportedly intoxicated and had fired a gun inside a home.

When officers arrived, they reportedly arrested Conley after determining he was the person who fired the gun. Conley then began violently resisting the officers escorting him to the police car while yelling, using profanities and pushing the officers.

While Conley was in the vehicle, the documents said he “manipulated the seat belt around his neck and used it to choke himself.”

“As (the officers) opened the door to remove the seatbelt, (Conley) threw himself out of the car,” the documents state. “(Conley) yelled at the officers and used profanities and racial slurs. His speech was slurred, he smelled of alcoholic beverages, and he was throwing a temper tantrum…While lying face down and handcuffed on the ground, he resisted officers’ attempts to control him, doubled over, and attempted to get up.”

At this point an ambulance was called. According to the documents, Conley was placed on a stretcher and into the ambulance as he continued to physically resist officers and paramedics. Conley reportedly once spit on two paramedics while resisting.

In an interview with witnesses, the documents said Conley’s relationship with his fiancée had ended and she was moving her items from his home. While she was reportedly moving out of her property, Conley allegedly called her a “cheat,” as well as a “b–” and a “whore” to his children.

At one point, Conley was reportedly sitting in the kitchen with his children and was overheard using terms such as “kill b–,” “dead b–,” and “shoot b–.”

In response to the comments, the children reportedly expressed concern that “the police were moving too quickly and asked (Conley) if his guns were ‘fast enough.’ Afterward, Conley reportedly told the children, “Tell me,” and fired two shots into the ceiling of the kitchen. Witnesses then called 911.

Police later allegedly found two small round holes in the kitchen ceiling, spent bullet casings and a semi-automatic handgun in a holster. The documents said Conley reportedly declined to comment and requested an attorney.

An informal preliminary hearing in the case is scheduled for June 6, according to court documents.
