Police: Chicago man kidnapped, drugged and raped 15-year-old girl for five months | MyStateline

CHICAGO, Ill. (WTVO) — A Chicago man has been charged with kidnapping a 15-year-old girl and holding her captive in his basement for five months. During this time he is said to have repeatedly drugged and raped her.

Chicago police arrested Derek Swift, 48, charged with aggravated kidnapping, kidnapping, criminal sexual assault and aggravated criminal sexual abuse.


After According to authorities, on Dec. 6, Swift pulled up next to the girl, who was on her way home, and offered her a ride. As the girl sat in the car, he reportedly offered her alcohol and pills, causing her to lose consciousness.

The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office said the victim woke up naked in Swift’s apartment. According to authorities, she was locked in the basement and he raped her repeatedly until April.

Assistant District Attorney Anne McCord said at Swift’s hearing that he sometimes left her alone for days.

Swift later gave the victim a phone so he could call her and check on her, but threatened to kill her if she called anyone else. She called police on April 29 after reportedly finding a piece of mail with the apartment’s address on it.

Swift turned himself in to police hours after the girl was removed from the apartment, telling police he believed she was 20 years old and claiming the sexual relationship was consensual.
