Law enforcement agencies are investigating murder and suicide

CROCKETT COUNTY, Tenn. – Maria Rios was the victim of a murder by her husband, Jesus Rios, according to Crockett County Public Information Officer Stephen Sutton.

The Crockett County Sheriff’s Department was called to the 3200 block of Highway 88 between Alamo and Maury City on Thursday, May 9th.

Crockett County Sheriff’s Department Public Information Officer Stephen Sutton told us more.

“As a result of the investigation, it was determined that there were descendants of Jesus Rios and Maria Rios in the home, believed to be husband and wife,” Sutton said.

The Crockett County Criminal Investigation Division, along with agents from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, investigated the crime scene.

“This is currently being investigated as a murder-suicide. “We believe Maria Rios is a victim of domestic violence at the hands of her husband,” Sutton said.

Sutton said it was a tragic day in Crockett County as the couple had three children.

He also wanted the community to know that if they find themselves in a domestic violence situation and need help, they can turn to the Women’s Resource and Rape Assistance Program, also known as WRAP.

“Wraptn.org and access to tons of information, resources and help for those experiencing domestic violence,” Sutton said.

This investigation is still ongoing.

“Jesus and Maria Rios, both descendants, were sent to the medical examiner’s office in Nashville for an autopsy. The autopsy will take place tomorrow. After the autopsy, they will be returned to their families. We ask that you continue to remember in your prayers the families of those affected by this tragic event,” Sutton said.
