Venezuela’s Attorney General says 749 people arrested in anti-Maduro protests

Venezuela’s Attorney General Tarek William Saab said on Tuesday that 749 people had been arrested in protests against President Nicolás Maduro’s election victory. He warned that this number could rise in the coming hours.

“749 of these criminals are in prison,” Saab told reporters, adding that most of them were charged with “resistance to authority and, in the most serious cases, terrorism.”
