At that point, according to police, a student on the Avon-based Specialty Transportation bus called police and expressed concern about the driver’s behavior. Police said the student also called a parent.

“The behavior was described as hand waving and a loud outburst,” Avon police spokesman John F. Schmalberger wrote Friday.

He said the incident was reported in the area of Hollister and Carriage Drive in Avon.

Schmalberger said shortly after the call, the driver made the next scheduled stop.

Then, with the help of a parent, “all of the children got off the bus safely,” he said.

Police said the driver continued to follow protocol and “continued the bus route with an empty bus.”

APD then located the bus in the city and spoke with the driver.

“In addition, we have not received any reports from other drivers about erratic driving on the bus and there is no evidence of impaired driving,” said Schmalberger.

“We have spoken to everyone involved and are currently in the process of organizing and documenting all information.”

The Avon school system is reportedly working with police and the bus company and sending a message to the school community regarding the incident.
