In a horrific incident of road rage, two drivers shot each other while the children of one of the victims watched from inside a car.

The bloody incident occurred on the 210 Freeway in Highland after a motorcyclist named Jonathan McConnell, 38, of Corona, swerved between lanes and struck a sedan driven by 37-year-old Aaron Harris of Highland, officials say. Police say McConnell left the scene of the accident and drove to the parking lot of Joy’s Lounge on Baseline Avenue in Highland.

On the way to the parking lot, limo driver Harris followed the motorcyclist with his two children, ages 2 and 5, in the car. Mara Rodriguez, a spokeswoman for the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, said both parties were armed and their aggressive road rage argument led to a shooting.

Rodriguez said: “It could have been so incredibly easy. When they got to the parking lot, the man in the sedan started yelling at the motorcyclist. They got into a confrontation. They were both armed and a shootout ensued. By the end of the night, both were dead.”

Officials said another man outside the restaurant suffered a hand injury. The two young children in the back seat of the sedan were unharmed. Rodriguez added: “We all get angry on the roads sometimes, especially these days with so much traffic and so much going on, but this is a great example of how quickly things can go wrong.”
