Another fatal accident involving a speeding BMW in Worli; man dies after battling for life for seven days | Mumbai News

After seven days of battling for his life, a 28-year-old man succumbed to his injuries on Saturday after he was hit by a speeding BMW while riding his two-wheeler in the Worli Sea area on July 20. Police have arrested the driver of the vehicle, who was taking his employer to an event at a five-star hotel in Worli.

This is the second fatal accident involving a speeding car in Worli this month. On July 9, 45-year-old fisherwoman Kaveri Nakhwa died after being dragged for nearly two kilometres in Worli after she got entangled in a BMW driven by Mihir Shah (allegedly under the influence of alcohol), the son of Shinde Sena leader Rajesh Shah. The driver had later swapped seats with his driver.

The deceased in the recent accident has been identified as Vinod Lad, who worked as a foreman for a transport company in Thane. Lad died on Saturday at BYL Nair Hospital, where he had been undergoing treatment for the past seven days. He also underwent a life-threatening surgery.

According to sources in Worli police, Lad, who like his cousin lives on Worli Hill Road, was on his way home from work on his two-wheeler when he was hit from behind by a speeding BMW on Abdul Gaffar Khan Road in Worli Sea Face area on July 20.

The boy suffered severe head injuries. People from other vehicles got out and took the injured woman to Nair Hospital. He had been in a coma since being admitted to the hospital and was being treated in intensive care when he died in hospital on Saturday, a relative of the boy said.

Festive offer

Police have arrested the alleged driver of the BMW, Kiran Indulkar. He was on his way to a family function at a year-round hospital in Worli where he was meeting his employer from Thane. Police filed a complaint on the complaint of Lad’s cousin Kishore Lad, posted at DN Nagar police station.

Zonal DCP Krishnakant Upadhyay confirmed the development and said that the injured person died on Saturday. “The accused driver could not leave the accident scene. He and others took the injured person to the hospital in his car. The accused was earlier charged under relevant sections for causing grievous hurt by negligent driving. Now that the injured person has died, we will invoke the section for causing grievous hurt by negligent driving,” Upadhyay said.

Should get married in December

Lad, who had lost his parents in childhood, was brought up by his uncle. Lad was a college graduate and was working in Thane Company. His wedding was scheduled for December this year and he was preparing for it. Four days before the accident, it was his birthday and his friends had given him a wristwatch. He told them that he would wear it on Sunday when he met his fiancée. But before that, he met a relative.
