Arrest in connection with Mitchell shooting investigation

On Wednesday, July 25, at 6:37 a.m., police officers responded to a 911 call from a rural residence approximately one mile east of Mitchell.

The reporting person, a woman who was home with her children, reported that a man knocked on her back door, that he had a gun and was possibly on drugs. She thought he was trying to get into the house. She then reported that she heard several gunshots, although no one was shot into the house. A Scotts Bluff County deputy was the first to arrive on the scene. He found the man nearby and took him into custody without incident. The man had a gun, but did not threaten the deputy with it.

The man was identified as Brandon Brown, 24, of the Mitchell area.

Officers later discovered bullet holes in a fence and a vehicle. They also seized suspected controlled substances and paraphernalia. After analyzing the seized items, drug possession charges will likely be filed.

Brandon Brown was booked into the Scotts Bluff County Detention Center on the following charges:

Unauthorized firing of a firearm

Use of a firearm to commit a crime

2and Degree of criminal trespass

Disturbing the peace

The Scottsbluff, Gering and Mitchell police departments also provided assistance.
