Internet blocked in Haryana’s Nuh ahead of Hindu group’s procession marred by last year’s violence | Indiablooms

Nuh (Haryana): In view of the Braj Mandal Jalabhishek Yatra, which was marred by violence last year, the Haryana government on Sunday ordered a 24-hour lockdown of mobile internet and bulk SMS services in Nuh district, media reported.

The suspension will be in effect from 6 pm Sunday to 6 pm Monday, news agency PTI reported, citing an order by Haryana Deputy Home Minister Anurag Rastogi.

“… there is a fear that tension, nuisance, riot, damage to public and private property and disturbance of public peace and order in the Nuh district…”, the order states.

The suspension was ordered to stop “the spread of misinformation and rumours” through social media platforms such as WhatsApp, Facebook, Twitter, etc.

To prevent violence, the Nuh police have tightened security to ensure that the yatra goes off without any untoward incidents.

On July 31 last year, two home guards and at least 15 other people, including several policemen, were killed after a huge mob tried to stop a Vishva Hindu Parishad procession by pelting stones and setting cars on fire.

The same night, a mob attacked a mosque in Gurugram and killed its Naib-Imam. The interfaith clash left at least five people dead and scores injured.
