Victim raped in Scarborough cemetery – Two men arrested

In the early hours of the morning, a victim was raped in a cemetery.

It happened at 1.50 am in Name of the cemetery In Scarborough.

Two men, aged 18 and 21, were arrested shortly afterwards on suspicion of rape and remain in custody for questioning.

The victim is receiving specialist medical care while the police investigation continues.

Investigators would like to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident and may have seen something.

In particular, they are interested in speaking with a person who was walking along Dean Road at about that time, from Columbus Ravine toward Northstead.

They also want all car drivers and taxi drivers who may have captured relevant footage with their dashboard cameras to come forward.

Detective Chief Inspector Dave Ellis, of the North Yorkshire Police Safeguarding Unit, said: “This was a horrific incident and we continue to support the brave victim who reported it.”

“Our investigations are in full swing and two people have been arrested and are still in custody for questioning.

“We are keen to speak to the person who was walking along Dean Road at the time of the incident, or anyone else who was in the area at the time, as we believe they may have vital information.

“Are you the contact person for us? Were you on site at that time? If so, please contact us.

“We understand that this incident is causing concern among the public, but we would like to assure you that we are treating this as an isolated incident.”
