Macomb County man sentenced for crash that killed tow truck driver

DETROIT – A Macomb County man has been convicted in a crash that left one person dead and a tow truck driver injured.

Tow truck called to the accident scene

According to officials, Dylan Bradford, 27, of Detroit was involved in an accident at 2:58 a.m. on January 1, 2024, at the intersection of Hayes Street and Young Street on the city’s east side.

At around 5 a.m. a tow truck arrived to tow away one of the cars involved in the accident.

Drunk driver rams tow truck

Police said De-L Alekshay-Makalo Wesley, 49, of Eastpointe, was intoxicated and driving south on Hayes Street at 5:14 a.m.

According to authorities, he crashed into the tow truck, which then hit Bradford and the tow truck driver.

Doctors declared Bradford dead at the scene of the accident.

Wesley and the tow truck driver – a 35-year-old man from Inkster – were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Wesley was charged with reckless driving resulting in death, reckless driving resulting in serious impairment of a physical function, driving under the influence of alcohol resulting in death, and driving under the influence of alcohol resulting in serious injury.

He was arraigned on January 3 in 36th District Court in Detroit and ordered held on $100,000 bail.

Conviction

Wesley was sentenced to 4 to 15 years in prison on July 12 for intoxicated manslaughter.

The prison time he had already served was credited with 12 days.

He also has to pay fees totaling $1,498.
