After Doda incident, Himachal Pradesh suspends new bus service from Chamba, police alert | Chandigarh News

Following repeated militant attacks in Jammu and Kashmir, the Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) has temporarily suspended its bus services on the Chamba-Doda route. The services began on July 2.

In addition, Himachal Police issued a security alert after five Army personnel, including an officer, were killed in a militant attack in Doda late on Monday.

Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) personnel stationed at a dozen checkpoints along the Doda-Chamba border have also been instructed to remain alert.

“In view of the recent terrorist activities, we have alerted our police and IRB personnel in Chamba district, which shares about 216 km long border with Doda district. Many precautionary measures are being taken. We are also in touch with central authorities, Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police,” Abhishek Trivedi, Deputy Director General of Police (Law & Order), told The Indian Express.

When asked if there was any concrete evidence of the movements of suspected terrorists in Himachal Pradesh, the police official declined to comment. “We have received information from various sources but cannot disclose it,” he said.

According to sources, local residents, especially shepherds travelling with their cattle between Chamba and Doda, have also been asked to be vigilant.

An HRTC official said the bus service between Chamba and Doda has been temporarily suspended due to safety reasons of citizens and passengers. He said the bus service will be resumed once the situation in Doda district returns to normal.

The bus on the Chamba-Doda route returned from Sanghani border area in Chamba district on Tuesday. The Himachal bus leaves from Chamba headquarters for Doda at 6.30 am daily. The bus stays overnight in Doda and returns in the morning.
