26 people died in bus accident in Peru

Lima, July 17: At least 26 people were killed and more than a dozen injured in a bus accident in the southern Peruvian region of Ayacucho, according to local authorities.

The vehicle belonging to the “Empresa Turismo Molina Union SAC” went off the road on Tuesday morning and fell into a ravine about 200 meters deep on the Los Libertadores highway in the Paras district of the Cangallo province in the Ayacucho region, the Xinhua news agency reported.

According to Jhonny Rolando Valderrama, head of the National Police’s Road Protection Division, the bus was traveling on the Lima-Ayacucho route with about 40 passengers on board.

Five ambulances from local health facilities, the fire department and the police health service were dispatched to the scene of the accident.
