2 relatives of minor boys who raped Andhra girl arrested: Police

Nandyal (Andhra Pradesh):

Andhra Pradesh police have arrested two male relatives of one of the three minor boys who allegedly raped a nine-year-old girl and dumped her body in a canal here, an official said on Tuesday.

On July 7, the boys allegedly raped the girl and then pushed her into the Mucchumarri irrigation canal in Mucchumarri village. She was last seen playing in a park in the village.

Newly appointed Nandyal Police Commissioner Adhiraj Singh Rana said the father and uncle of one of the boys were arrested for embezzlement and destruction of evidence.

“We arrested the two men on Monday and produced them before a local court which remanded them in custody,” Mr Rana told PTI, adding that the boys were also produced before a juvenile court.

Police said hearings are currently taking place in juvenile court and the boys may later be sent to an observation home.

According to police, the boys strangled the girl after raping her and with the help of the two men, they took her body on a bicycle for a short distance and then on a motorcycle to the backwaters of the Krishna river. Later, they tied a stone to her body and threw it into the canal, police said.

On Tuesday morning, police reconstructed the crime scene, focusing on a specific search area to find the body.

Six police teams, experienced swimmers, dog teams, drone cameras, technical teams as well as teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) are searching for the body.
