TxDOT Pharr District Assists with Beryl Recovery in Houston

HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — A team of traffic signal technicians from the Texas Department of Transportation’s Pharr District are assisting with the recovery of Beryl in the Houston metro area.

Beryl made landfall in Texas as a Category 1 hurricane late Sunday night, leaving flooding, property damage and traffic light outages.

“This is a strategic effort, but we’re here to help the Houston district,” said Rex Costley, deputy district engineer for TxDOT’s Pharr district. “Help is on the way. This is a team effort.”

TxDOT left early Wednesday morning for a base camp in Sugarland, located in the Houston area, with supplies and a bucket truck.

“They need a lot of help right now,” said Conrad Rocha, traffic light inspector for TxDOT’s Pharr District. “If this (Beryl) happened here, I know other districts would come help us.”

Pharr’s district will join a team of TxDOT colleagues from districts across the state including Dallas, Fort Worth, Austin, Waco, Corpus Christi, Tyler and Bryan.

The TxDOT Pharr District estimates its team will be in the Houston area on assignment for a week.
