Tampa police search for suspect in armed motel robbery

According to authorities, the suspect pointed a firearm at a motel clerk and demanded money from the cash register.

TAMPA, Fla. – Tampa police are asking the public for help in identifying a suspect in an armed robbery at a local motel.

Authorities said this happened just after 10 p.m. on Tuesday, July 2, at the Econo Lodge Airport @ RJ Stadium on the corner of North Dale Mabry Highway and West Cayuga Street.

The department released video footage showing the suspected robber wearing a maroon and white baseball cap, red shirt and colorful shorts. The footage shows him walking into the lobby and then pulling out a gun while reaching behind the desk where someone is standing.

According to police, the unknown man threatened a sales clerk with a gun and demanded that he give him money from the cash register. No one was injured.

After taking the money, he left the motel, officials said.

“Tampa Police Detectives are working diligently to identify the suspect and make an arrest in this case. Your information could be critical to the investigation,” the department said in a statement.
