The Australian dance teacher who suffered catastrophic brain and facial injuries is being flown home from Bali by helicopter as doctors battle to save her eyesight.

Rebecca “Becci” Ode, 36, who suffered horrific injuries in the mysterious accident on the night she was planning to celebrate her birthday, had travelled to Bali to recover from the emotional trauma of her father’s suicide.

Kevin Ode died suddenly on April 30, 2022 at the age of 60, leaving behind a severe setback in the deaths of his immediate family, including his daughters Rebecca and her sister Jordyn.

Relatives said Ms Ode had recently been “happiest” after a six-month holiday on the Indonesian resort island.

But then last Tuesday at around 1 a.m. she was found semi-conscious on a road near Jungut Batu beach on the island of Nusa Lembongan, southeast of Bali.

She was flown to a hospital in Denpasar where she underwent 14 hours of brain, eye and reconstructive surgery. Doctors fear she could still lose an eye.

Dr Bagus Mahadewa of Ngoerah General Hospital warned that Ms Ode needed to be urgently airlifted to Australia as there may still be cerebrospinal fluid trapped in her skull.

Daily Mail Australia has learned that Ms Ode’s medical repatriation to Australia is currently underway after her family raised $206,000 on a GoFundMe appeal.

The 36-year-old dance teacher is being flown home to undergo further medical treatment after suffering injuries in a mysterious accident that may result in the loss of an eye.

With an air ambulance, Ms Ode could fly back to Australia in three to four hours.

Ms. Odes’ brother-in-law, Jesse Wilton, who works in real estate in Newcastle with her sister Jordyn, said her medical bills were $60,000 in the first few days alone.

“We have no idea how it happened… there was no alcohol… and the extent of her injuries is quite traumatic,” Mr Wilton said.

Dr Mahedawa told Daily Mail Australia his team spent 10 hours operating on Ms Ode’s injuries.

“It looked like a serious accident with a heavy impact,” he added.

“Maybe she hit a wall, a street, a pedestrian (or a vehicle) very hard – but nobody knows.”

Bali police told Daily Mail Australia on Friday that Ms Ode was riding a Yamaha scooter and lost control when she collided with a parked motorbike.

The report said the incident occurred on a clear night with dark skies and there was almost no traffic on the road.

Although she was now able to speak after the operation, Dr Mahadewa said, Ms Ode could not remember what happened.

Her first words to the medical staff when she woke up were: “What happened to me?”

Mr Wilton said the family’s main aim was to get Ms Ode home as quickly as possible.

“We know that with her strong will and determination, Bec will continue to fight her best fight,” he added.

Ms. Ode has suffered structural damage to her face that will disfigure her for the rest of her life.

Her mother, Shari, and sister, Jordyn, flew to Bali to be by her side and were traumatized by the severity of Ms. Ode’s injuries.

“The impact completely pushed her eye out of her head and the injury was so severe that they weren’t sure if they could even save the eye,” Jordyn said on Facebook.

“Her nose was split in half and the cartilage was shattered. They had to rebuild her face and I really want to get her home so she can get professional help.

“The orthopedic surgeons repaired her collarbone and shoulder, which were also injured. She now has a metal plate holding her collarbone together.”

Jordyn and Becci Ode are well-known and respected dancers in the Newcastle area. Becci has also recently worked at SeaWorld.

Including medical transport, flight to Sydney and onward transport to Newcastle, the cost of Ms Ode’s return home is expected to be more than $250,000.
