Speaking to the media in Gadag on Sunday, he said, “If there were no irregularities in the MUDA case as the Chief Minister claims, then an independent inquiry by the CBI or a judicial inquiry should be conducted to bring out the truth.”

He added: “Under different governments, land was allocated under different plans and if the plans were lawful, there should be no problems. However, if there were changes in the plans, an investigation would bring everything to light.”

A day earlier, Union Minister Pralhad Joshi had demanded an impartial investigation into the MUDA scandal and asked the state government to transfer the case to the CBI.

Pralhad Joshi said: “It is claimed that this is more than 3,800 crore fraud and land duly approved by MUDA was transferred in the name of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s wife. It is a huge fraud and the then DC, who has now been transferred to cover it up, had written more than 15 letters to the state government to investigate the matter and give proper directions to MUDA. Still, they did not act and Siddaramaiah got very valuable land.”

He further said that by transferring the DC, the fraud has been proved. “By transferring the DC, the fraud has been proved. We demand a proper and impartial investigation and the state government should hand it over to the CBI,” Joshi said.

At the same time, the former chief minister also criticised the state government for its failure to contain the dengue outbreak and accused it of playing with the lives of the poor. “The dengue cases have been recurring for the last one and a half months and the government, health department and district health officials should have taken precautionary measures but they failed to do so,” Bommai said.

The BJP leader said dengue is a disease caused by stagnant water after rains and the government should have conducted awareness campaigns and disinfection but it has not done so. He added, “Instead, the government is trying to downplay the severity of the outbreak by categorizing dengue cases and reducing the number of tests being conducted. Officially, the government is reporting 7,000 cases but the actual number is double that and many deaths are not reported,” he added.

Bommai also stressed the need for adequate testing, medicines and treatment, saying that many district hospitals lacked the required equipment and the situation was even worse in taluk-level hospitals.

Intensifying his attacks on the government, Bommai said, “The state government has completely failed to control the dengue outbreak, resulting in numerous deaths and a disastrous public health situation. The government must set up a task force to immediately address the dengue crisis and take countermeasures. If the outbreak is not contained, it may lead to other diseases and patients may take months to recover.”

Bommai urged the government to expand testing, provide wider access to medicines and vaccines, and ensure free testing and treatment for the poor as they cannot afford it.
