An 18-year-old Virginia man was arrested by police after sending officers on a chase in Kinston.

Stephan Jones, 18, of Norfolk, Virginia, was charged with four counts of credit card theft, attempted eluding, resisting a public official, possession of a stolen motor vehicle, possession of a Schedule VI controlled substance with intent to sell and deliver, possession of stolen goods, hit and run and driving without a license, according to Kinston police.

On Saturday, June 29, Kinston Police received information about a stolen vehicle being driven with a stolen license plate.

Police found the vehicle between West King Street and South Herritage Street. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle Jones was in, but he allegedly did not stop and attempted to flee, police said.

Jones sent police on a chase that began on West King Street and continued to West Washington Avenue.

Police received assistance from Lenoir County officials and the North Carolina Highway Patrol.

During the chase, Jones crashed into a utility pole in the 300 block of West Washington Avenue. Jones jumped out of the vehicle and ran on foot, police said.

Officials said they had cordoned off a restricted area and a KPD sniffer dog unit had been deployed to track down Jones.

Police found Jones hiding in bushes in the 300 block of Atlantic Avenue. He was taken into custody.

Officers determined that the vehicle Jones was driving had reportedly been stolen in Virginia.
