Suspect in custody after police shooting in south Bakersfield

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) – Police say a suspect is in custody following a police-involved shooting in south Bakersfield.

Bakersfield police said officers were in the area of ​​Belle Terrace and South Martin Luther King Jr Boulevard, where they opened fire. Police said a suspect was in custody, but did not disclose whether the suspect or other officers were struck by gunfire.

Authorities are asking residents to avoid the area as roads may be closed for several hours.

There is no danger to the public, the department said in a post on X.
