DOUGLAS COUNTY — Police are investigating a bank robbery and are asking neighbors in an area to check cameras in their homes while they search for the suspect.

Shortly before 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, police responded to the Bank of America at 900 Ohio Street in Lawrence after a bank robbery was reported, according to a Lawrence police news release.

A person who said he was inside the bank when the robbery began ran out to call police. Several people were inside the bank at the time of the robbery, conducting business. Witnesses told police the suspect demanded money and then quickly fled southbound into the alley between Tennessee and Ohio streets.

Police cannot confirm with certainty whether or not a weapon was involved. The suspect was wearing a black beanie hat with prominent lettering and a mask with a motif. The suspect escaped with an unknown amount of cash and no one was physically injured.

Police are asking anyone with surveillance cameras between 8th and 13th streets between Louisiana and Vermont to check their recordings for anything they may have recorded before and after the incident. The FBI office in Kansas City immediately responded to assist with the investigation..
