Jeremy Renner’s eye literally popped out of its socket in a snowplow accident

On New Year’s Day 2023, Jeremy Renner’s terrible fate was hidden under the almost angelic white blanket of snow that covered a small town near Lake Tahoe, Nevada. In the early hours of the morning, the Oscar-winning actor suffered injuries that no mortal could survive in an accident involving a snow plow, and fans were forced to rethink their ideas of what a true superhero looks like.

Despite being run over by a 14,000-pound snowcat and learning he might lose both legs, Jeremy Renner’s willpower allowed him to get back on his feet. His newfound purpose allowed him to reach for the stars, with no limits to his ambitions and no end to his Hollywood career.

Jeremy Renner survives an impossible accident

The life story of Jeremy Renner is a fascinating tale that describes the rise of a talented indie actor with facial features that resemble those of a bulldog and would change the face of modern cinema. The actor started quite early with a wonderfully dark role in Dahmer (2002) before moving on to his Oscar-nominated roles in Deadly Commando – The Hurt Locker (2008) and The city (2010).

A year later, he made his debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with a small role in Thor alongside heavyweights such as Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Natalie Portman and Sir Anthony Hopkins. 12 years later, he had an accident in which he broke over 38 bones, shattered part of his skull and was temporarily paralyzed from the waist down.

After Jeremy Renner’s role as a superhero in the MCU as one of the original 6 Avengers was already quite well-developed, his next venture defied all logic and rationality, as if it was inspired directly from the pages of a comic book. The actor survived – and in just 4 months he strutted across the stages of late-night talk shows and down the red carpet at the launch of his Disney+ event.

On the fateful morning of January 1, 2023, Jeremy Renner was trapped under a 14,330-pound Sno-Cat while attempting to rescue his nephew after he fell down the hillside near his ranch on Mount Rose. Renner’s neighbor could be heard on the 911 call, making bloodcurdling noises of unimaginable pain and insisting that he “Fight on.”

In an interview with Diane Sawyer, the actor later revealed that he immediately thought about what the accident had done to his body:

What will my body look like? Will I look like nothing more than a spine and a brain, like in a scientific experiment? Is this my existence now?

Now, 18 months later, after his full recovery and on a mission to conquer Hollywood, the actor reveals in a Men’s Health Cover story:

I remember my head slamming into the thing and it just pressing down on me – it’s exactly what you’d imagine. An immovable object and a crushing force, and something has to give. But thank God my skull didn’t give in completely. And then I carried on.

My cheekbone broke, my eye socket broke, and then my eyes bulged from the crushing I had suffered from the machine. I could see my left eyeball with my right eyeball. I screamed for air.

However, the harrowing and nightmarish incident, which was nearly fatal and left him in intensive care for 12 days, gave him a new purpose and outlook on life. Not only has the actor demonstrated a superhuman will to overcome every impossible obstacle on his path to a full recovery, but he is also moving forward with his projects in Hollywood, including the Paramount+ series, at an incredible pace.
