Suspect arrested in connection with 2023 stabbing attack on New Haven man

Putnam native Walter Lawson was arrested in 2023 in connection with the stabbing death of a New Haven man.

PUTNAM, Connecticut (WTNH) – A Putnam man was recently issued multiple arrest warrants, including manslaughter, in connection with a fatal stabbing in Putnam last year.

Walter Lawson, 41, was extradited from Maine by the Eastern District Criminal Investigation Department after he was arrested there on three separate warrants related to multiple incidents between September 2023 and May 2024.

Lawson was charged with first-degree manslaughter, possession of drugs with intent to sell (person under 18), and conspiracy to commit first-degree assault.

The manslaughter charge stems from a September 2023 incident in which Lawson is accused of stabbing a man during an altercation in Putnam.

The man was later identified as 51-year-old William Logan of New Haven.

At the time, police said, he was dropped off by a vehicle at Day Kimball Hospital, where he entered the building to seek medical attention. The hospital’s medical team treated him, but he later succumbed to his injuries and died at the hospital, officials said.

Lawson was held on a total of $1,525,000 bail and was scheduled for arraignment in Danielson Superior Court on June 28.
