Police: Pedestrian killed in accident in Kentwood, driver arrested

KENTWOOD, Mich. (WOOD) – Authorities say a pedestrian was killed and a driver was arrested following a crash in Kentwood.

According to Kentwood police, the accident occurred around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday on 44th Street SE near Walnut Hills Drive SE.


The pedestrian was crossing 44th Street when he was struck by a car. The 26-year-old Kentwood man was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police. His name has not been released.

The driver initially drove away but later returned to the scene of the accident. The driver was arrested and taken to the Kent County Correctional Facility, according to a KPD press release.

Police said it is not known whether alcohol played a role in the accident; this remains under investigation.
