Eureka man killed at Nebraska rest stop on June 19 | Police fire

A 72-year-old Eureka man has died and a 71-year-old Eureka woman is in critical condition after an alleged stabbing attack at a Nebraska highway rest area. A 22-year-old Elyria, Ohio, man allegedly attacked the two during an attempted robbery, the Hall County Sheriff’s Office reported.

Hall County Sheriff’s officers were called to a rest area on I-80 at 7:08 a.m. today, June 19. The man and woman were suffering from apparent stab wounds and were taken to a local hospital, the report said.

The man was pronounced dead at Grand Island Regional Hospital. The woman, who suffered life-threatening injuries, was reportedly in critical condition as of this afternoon.

Nebraska State Patrol officers arrested the Ohio man after a chase from the rest area. It was not known as of this afternoon whether the man had been charged in the alleged attack.

The Hall County Sheriff’s Office said the incident remains under investigation and an autopsy has been ordered on the Eureka man.

The victims could not be identified immediately as authorities are still trying to notify their families.
