Report: Indianapolis police are investigating Patrick Beverley following an incident with fans during the Game 6 loss to the Pacers

Indianapolis police are investigating the incident between Milwaukee Bucks guard Patrick Beverley and a Pacers fan at the end of Game 6 of their playoff opening round earlier this month.

Detectives confirmed the investigation to The Athletic on Wednesday and said they were reviewing video footage from Gainbridge Fieldhouse and planned to speak with all parties. It is unclear whether they will press criminal charges.

In the final minutes of the Bucks’ sixth loss to the Pacers, which ended the series and sent the Pacers to the Eastern Conference semifinals, he hit a female Pacers fan and hit her in the head. Beverley then motioned for another fan to throw the ball back to him, which he did, and then Beverley threw the ball right back to him.

Beverley continued chatting with fans behind her bench before teammates and others diffused the situation. He was not excluded from the game, but did not return either. The Bucks were 20 points behind at that point.

Beverley later responded on social media, saying fans were rooting for her all night long. He didn’t apologize either.

After the game, ESPN’s Malinda Adams was in a scrum because she wasn’t subscribed to his podcast.

Of course, Beverley received a lot of criticism for this. Adams later said that both Beverley and the Bucks called her to apologize for his actions.

Beverley, who was traded to the Bucks before the deadline earlier this year, averaged six points and 3.6 rebounds with the franchise this season. The move to Milwaukee marked the sixth team the 35-year-old has played for in the last four seasons. Beverley had a one-year, $3.1 million contract last season. He will be a free agent this summer.
