Search warrant documents reveal new details in Spotsylvania triple murder investigation – NBC4 Washington

According to search warrants, robbery may have been the motive for the triple murder of three roommates in Spotsylvania County, Virginia, earlier this month.

Alyssa Venable, 23, is suspected of killing three of her roommates – a 60-year-old man, a 65-year-old woman and a 77-year-old man who were found shot to death in the small house they were renting on June 4. Another roommate, who was not there at the time of the crime, discovered the crime scene when he returned home and called the sheriff’s office.

The search warrants indicate that investigators are trying to locate cash. They believe robbery may have been a motive, as investigators were told there may be a large amount of cash in the home, but none was found during the search.

Venable was arrested two days later after a chase in New York, the sheriff’s office said. She is believed to have initially driven west, possibly to Cincinnati, before turning north to New York, where she put an Ohio license plate on her car, according to police.

According to a Spotsylvania County search warrant, the fifth roommate called police after finding one of the victims dead on the couch. It was a gunshot wound to the head. Another victim was shot in the head in the bathroom. The third was found shot in the garage, covered by a table and mattress.

In the hours after the murders, two of the suspects’ friends contacted police concerned about her. According to the documents, Venable dropped her dog off with a friend. Another friend told investigators that Venable had “hurt people” and left them a package containing “a suicide note, cash, instructions on how to care for her dog, and all the passwords to her accounts.”

Friends and family estimate that Enable lived in the house for a month or two.

A preliminary hearing for Venable is scheduled for July 17.
