Two Independence City employees attacked in separate incidents

City officials: Two Independence city employees attacked in separate incidents

Two Independence city employees are recovering after being recently attacked in separate incidents. City Manager Zach Walker said at Monday’s city council meeting that a parks employee was headbutted twice and run over by dirt bikes, while a second employee was shot at by someone while shutting off a utility line. The employee run over by the dirt bike required treatment in the emergency room. “Our city employees are actually people trying to get home to their families at night,” Walker said. “They’re just doing their job serving the public. You may not always like the rules, but they’re just trying to do their job and enforce them.” Mayor Rory Rowland of Independence hinted at a third incident but didn’t give too many details. “As a city, it’s important that we respect law and order,” Rowland said. “These are city employees just trying to do their job. We want to make sure we have respect for them.”
