Bus driver arrested for raping woman after giving her drug-laced tea

Indore (Madhya Pradesh): A pharmaceutical company employee was allegedly raped in a friend’s room by a bus driver who kept his identity secret after he gave her an intoxicant in tea in Rau area, police said on Saturday. The woman was travelling by bus and they started talking. The accused allegedly pressured her to change her religion after she saw his identity card. The accused has been arrested and the case is being investigated further.

Rajpal Singh Rathore, in-charge of Rau police station, said a 30-year-old woman had lodged a complaint because she was employed by a pharmaceutical company in Rau. She was travelling to her office by bus. The bus driver, who introduced himself as Sonu, started talking to her. He befriended her, after which the accused took the woman to the room of one of his friends in Rau area where he gave her tea.

After drinking the tea, she became unconscious and the accused allegedly had physical intercourse with her. When she regained consciousness, she came to know about the incident. She resisted the accused when he promised to marry her. She alleged that the accused also had physical intercourse with her on several occasions on the pretext of marrying her. In her complaint, she stated that she searched the accused’s bag and found an identity card in which his name was mentioned as Wasim.

The accused allegedly asked them to change their religion and made caste-related remarks. Police have filed charges against the accused under various sections of the IPC and the SC and ST Act and arrested him on Saturday. He was produced before the court and sent to jail, police added.
