Two officers suspended, seven under investigation for negligence in Tremithousa murder case

Police appear to be cleaning up after being heavily criticised for hesitating to act in a serious domestic violence case that tragically resulted in the death of a young mother in Paphos while her estranged husband remains in custody.

The suspect is being treated for injuries to his abdomen sustained after an altercation with the victim and the subsequent fatal stabbing. During this altercation, neighbors alerted the police, who apparently did not respond to the calls in time.

It was also established that there was an arrest warrant against the man in connection with the recent attack on Petya Krateva, the mother of two children aged 12 and 2, who had taken protective measures against him.

Police spokesman Christos Andreou said two members of the force were suspended for negligence and disciplinary proceedings had been initiated against seven other officers.

“Following a preliminary report from the officer appointed yesterday to investigate whether the police responded to calls from neighbours in relation to the premeditated murder in Paphos, it is clear that further action is required,” Andreou announced, adding that a senior officer had been appointed to conduct a disciplinary investigation into seven members of the force.

The investigating officer will also examine whether the necessary measures were taken to locate and arrest the suspect in a timely manner following a warrant for his arrest on domestic violence charges filed by his estranged wife.
