Michael Travis of The String Cheese Incident and Ben Atkind of ElephantProof collaborate in Hartford

The Arch Street Tavern in Hartford, Connecticut, has announced a new, intimate jam show for later this summer with a rare combination of special guests. On August 31, the haven of classic rock and psychedelia will welcome an exciting duo: Michael Travis of The String Cheese Incident and Ben Atkind of ElephantProof, who will bring all their instrumental skills to deliver a completely improvised “dance odyssey.”

Having become a well-known figure in the jam scene through his thirty years of experience as a drummer and percussionist, Travis is familiar with this style of performance, having honed his jamtronica skills alongside Aaron Johnston with the fan-favorite electronic duo Snakes and Stars. While Atkind, formerly of Goose, has not developed such a complementary side project, the artist has recently been rehearsing a similar form of improvisational fusion as part of DJ Logic’s ensemble for Dead & Company’s aftershows. With both artists typically favoring percussion, the resulting collaboration is bound to be rhythm-heavy and tantalizingly unfamiliar.

The duo will be joined by openers Px3, a Hartford trio specializing in crazy organ improvisation. In their post about the set, Px3 teased, “Does this smell like a super jam?! Come along and find out.”

Tickets for Travis and Atkind’s show at Arch Street Tavern are on sale now.
