San Jose police use stun grenades, cordon off block of houses during standoff – NBC Bay Area

Police in San Jose cordoned off part of a residential neighborhood on Thursday morning and used stun grenades in a house where they believed an armed suspect had barricaded himself.

According to police, officers executed a search warrant as part of a so-called “special operation.”

The operation took place in a neighborhood near Capitol Expressway and Senter Road, near Andrew Hill High School, police said. The location was in the 3200 block of Lantern Way, near Singleton Road.

According to police, agents from the Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms Administration, the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office and the District Attorney’s Office were also on scene.

Neighbors believed they heard gunshots, but police said the bangs were likely caused by stun grenades used at the scene.

Further details were not immediately available.
