Fatal motorcycle crash in Livermore blocks westbound lanes of I-580, ‘significant’ delays expected

As the California Highway Patrol confirmed to KTVU, one person was killed in a multi-vehicle accident on Interstate 580 early Thursday morning, which also involved a motorcycle.

The accident occurred in the westbound lanes near the Livermore Avenue exit.

Currently, only the FasTrak lanes are open, with all other lanes closed. CHP says these situations are monitored by the Metropolitan Transportation Commission, and anyone who needs to use the FasTrak lane will not have to pay a fee if it is the only lane open.

Witnesses told CHP that a motorcycle was traveling back and forth between lanes around 5:40 a.m. when it was struck by a tractor-trailer.

CHP cannot confirm when the motorway will reopen. CHP Dublin is asking commuters to prepare for “significant delays” to commuter traffic through the region on Thursday morning.
