Former Spandau Ballet singer “raped and filmed sexually harassed women,” court says

Former Spandau Ballet singer Ross William Wild raped several women and filmed himself doing so, a court has heard.

The 36-year-old Scottish artist – whose real name is Ross Davidson – demanded sex up to six times a night and is said to have forced his victims if they resisted.

Davidson appeared at London’s Wood Green Crown Court on Tuesday, where the jury was told that the singer also filmed himself molesting sleeping women, who were unaware of the abuse until they were shown the footage.

According to The Sun newspaper, he was accused of harboring a perverted fantasy of having sex with sleeping women and a “model” – by which he reportedly meant a doll or mannequin.

One woman was allegedly filmed sleeping while Davidson sexually assaulted her at the Cannes Film Festival, while another was allegedly treated by him like a “sex slave.”

Davidson took over as lead singer of Spandau Ballet in 2018, following a successful West End career including stints with We Will Rock You and Million Dollar Quartet – where he performed for the first time with Spandau bassist Martin Kemp.

He was the temporary replacement for original singer Tony Hadley.

Davidson is on trial for three counts of rape, three counts of sexual assault, one count of voyeurism, one count of intimidation and one count of controlling behavior toward five different women over a ten-year period between 2013 and 2023.

He denies all allegations.

Prosecutor Richard Hearnden described Davidson as “very good looking” and “a bit of a sex symbol” – but as someone with “a darker side”.

Mr Hearnden claimed that “all women in this case can attest to this dark part of his personality”, even though this was not the first thing that girls and women noticed about him.

According to the publication, the lawyer added: “In this case, many young women have come forward and told police that they were victims of Mr. Davidson’s predatory behavior.”

“Because he expects to get sex on demand, he resorts to rape and sexual abuse when he doesn’t get what he believes he deserves.”

Davidson is accused of filming himself raping the first woman after an argument in his North Finchley flat on October 1, 2013.

Mr Hearnden, who claimed Davidson filmed such acts for his “personal gratification”, said: “Afterwards he said to her, ‘Why do you look like you have been raped?’ She was shocked that he would ask such a question.”

He is also accused of secretly filming himself caressing the breasts of a second woman while she held his penis, although the woman allegedly knew nothing about the recording.

According to the prosecutor, it was this woman to whom Davidson told him that he had the “fantasy” and “desire” to “have sex with a woman while she was sleeping.”

A third woman is said to have been abused by him in Cannes in May 2018, without being aware that she had been sexually abused at the time because she was asleep.

Davidson is also accused of filming a fourth woman performing sexual acts on him without her consent and later raping her in his home.

The fourth woman, Mr Hearnden claimed, told Davidson that she did not want to have sex with him and had “told him this on several occasions”.

He also said that she remembered “pressing against or on his chest with both hands to emphasize her point” and that she called her mother from the bathroom afterward.

The same alleged victim claims that Davidson treated her like “some sort of sex slave” and also forced her to clean his house.

Another woman, who met Davidson in February 2012 through the dating app Plenty of Fish and moved in with him in March 2015, also claimed that she woke up in his bed and caught Davidson having sex with her.

Mr Hearnden said the plaintiff felt “frightened, intimidated and helpless” and that it was she who had allegedly previously told Davidson that he liked the idea of ​​having sex with “a model”.

“He didn’t mean, as it turns out, a supermodel, a very attractive person, but something completely different,” Hearnden continued, claiming he was actually describing “sex with a doll, a mannequin or a puppet, a model of that kind.”

The woman claimed that Davidson said he “liked the idea of ​​the other person, the woman, being silent, showing no emotion, and not responding at all to the sexual act.”

However, Davidson apparently never told her that he wanted to have sex with her in this way, and “nor did she tell him that she wanted to play such a role.”

Singer Davidson was initially arrested at his home on March 30, 2021, and questioned about one of the alleged rapes and two alleged sexual assaults, as well as the videos. The prosecutor said he insists that everything between him and the women was consensual.

Davidson, who also sings in the band Mercutio, only had a brief stint with Spandau Ballet after being fired virtually live on ITV’s This Morning after a year. Martin Kemp confirmed that the band would not tour again “until Tony comes back”.

According to Davidson, the humiliation of this ordeal later led him to attempt to end his life.
