Shooting at Lake Camanche campsite: 1 man arrested

The victim told officers that he got into an argument with a man over a traffic accident, whereupon the man pulled out a gun and shot him.

CALAVERAS COUNTY, Calif. – A man was arrested on attempted murder charges following a shooting at a crowded campground at Lake Camanche.

According to the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred around 9:30 p.m. Saturday when a deputy was on patrol and heard a gunshot near the Moccasin Campground on the south shore.

Upon arrival, the victim told the officer that he had gotten into an argument with 28-year-old Ismael Viveros over a car accident.

The victim told the deputy that Viveros said he was going to “kill” him and fired a volley at him and other campers.

Amador County and California Highway Patrol officers were called to assist and Viveros was found near the front gate attempting to exit the building.

He was arrested and transported to the Calaveras County Jail where he was booked on charges of attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, aggravated criminal threat and membership in a street gang. He is not eligible for bail.
