Shasta County tests Alert FM system on Wednesday

If you own an Alert FM receiver in Shasta County, please be aware that the county will be testing its system at 10 a.m. Wednesday morning to make sure everything is working properly as fire season begins.

The program works hand-in-hand with the Genasys Protect Zone system to help police and emergency responders easily deliver notifications and alerts to residents in rural areas of the county.

Shasta Sheriff’s Office spokesman Tim Mapes says the test is critical to maintaining that line of communication.

“Many people live in remote areas where the power is cut off for safety reasons. They don’t have good cell reception. They don’t have good internet. And a lot of these warnings are sent through these kinds of channels.”

Mapes says the system has been in use in the county for over a year and the sheriff’s office has had no complaints. He said if you have any problems with your Alert FM receiver, you can contact Global Security Systems for free replacement parts and repairs. Call (866) 869-5180.
