Shooting near KC Power & Light District: 1 dead, 2 injured

KANSAS CITY – Law enforcement is investigating a homicide that occurred Monday morning near the Kansas City Power and Light District.

Shortly before 1 a.m., police responded to a report of a shooting near Truman Road and Grand Boulevard, according to Sheriff Daryl Forte.

Emergency responders found a man on the sidewalk suffering from gunshot wounds. He was taken to a local hospital and pronounced dead.

Police also found two other victims in a parking lot behind a store. Both women were taken to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Because there was a large crowd at the crime scene, police believe someone may have information that could lead to an arrest.

Detectives were on scene collecting evidence, speaking with witnesses and reviewing surveillance footage. Anyone with information is asked to anonymously call the TIPS hotline at 816-474-TIPS.
